WHAT WILL HAPPEN IN MY FIRST THERAPY SESSION?
Our first session will be a time to review paperwork, get to know one another, and discuss what's bringing you to therapy. I often ask questions to learn more about you, and to gather information that can be helpful to your treatment. We will also identify your specific goals; these will act as a guide for us as we move forward in the therapy process.
DO YOU ACCEPT INSURANCE?
At this time I do not accept insurance. However, I can provide a statement for you to take to your insurance company for full or partial reimbursement. For more information, please contact your insurance provider to see if your plan includes out-of-network mental health benefits.
ARE THERE BENEFITS TO NOT USING INSURANCE? WHAT IF I CAN'T AFFORD YOUR FEE?
By working with a therapist privately, you get to determine a course of treatment that works best for you. You will not be limited by a predetermined timeline, nor be required to receive a mental health diagnosis for insurance to view your sessions as medically necessary. I recognize that paying out of pocket may be a financial barrier for some in accessing care, but don't let my fee discourage you from reaching out! More often than not, I have found I’m able to come up with an acceptable arrangement with most clients. Even if this is not the case, I am more than happy to provide a referral to a therapist who may be able to meet your needs.
HOW LONG CAN I EXPECT TO COME TO THERAPY?
Unfortunately there is no definitive answer to this question. Some clients find a few sessions are sufficient, while others choose to continue long-term (20+ sessions). The length of treatment is based on your unique needs, and we will frequently check-in on the progress being made. However, you may choose to discontinue therapy at any time.

Contrary to this popular belief, asking for help and pursuing real change often requires more strength and courage than passively staying stuck. It can be overwhelming to manage the complexities of life on your own, and with therapy, you don't have to! In our work together, we will explore and build upon your existing strengths, and how they can be used to reduce the impact of the problems you're facing.
MY PROBLEMS AREN'T SERIOUS ENOUGH FOR THERAPY
There is no threshold that must be met to qualify for therapy, and there is never a "not bad enough" for getting help. Your struggles and experiences are valid, and you are always deserving of seeking support. A few common reasons why clients come to see me include wanting to...

A THERAPIST WILL FIX ALL MY PROBLEMS
The goal of therapy is not for someone else to fix your problems. Much of whether therapy is beneficial depends greatly on our connection with one another (thus a strong emphasis is placed on building a positive and trusting relationship), as well as your willingness to show up, to face challenges, and to create changes that sometimes feel uncomfortable. However, that's not to say you're alone in this process! I am here to help you identify and understand your specific areas of concern, provide effective tools and creative interventions, and offer support in finding potential solutions.
